Pay Statement Description

Listed below are the contents of the TCNJ paycheck. This information contains details of each field on the paycheck.

  • Period Start Date and Period End Date: Beginning and ending dates for the pay period. The College of New Jersey follows a biweekly pay schedule.  Pay schedules are posted on the Payroll Office website.
  • Payment Date:   Date payment issued.
  • Employee Name:  New employees should verify that your name on your pay statement matches your legal name on your Social Security card to ensure correct reporting of wages to Social Security Administration.
  • Payroll:  Information used to classify employees for payroll purposes.
  • Employee Address:  Employees should verify that the address listed here is their current address.
  • Job Title:  State job title.
  • Position:  TCNJ job title.
  • Payroll Relationship Number:  Your six-digit TCNJ employee identification number.  Use this number when asking Payroll questions.
  • Summary: Provides a summary of gross pay, pretax (benefits) deductions, employee tax (federal/state) deductions, and the net payment amount.
  • Earnings:  Earnings paid by type, the amount and year-to-date amounts.
  • Description:  Breakdown of hours worked that make up your earnings (salary, sick pay, vacation pay, overtime, etc.).
  • Absences:  Breakdown of paid time off in dollar amounts.
  • Hours:  Breakdown of all hours worked for the pay period and year-to-date.
  • Pretax Deductions:  Current and year-to-date deductions withheld from your gross pay before taxes are applied (employee portion of benefits payments and  .  These deductions reduce your taxable income.
  • Tax Deductions:  Current and year-to-date tax deductions for applicable federal and state taxes (includes Social Security, Medicare, and unemployment taxes).
  • Absence Accruals:   Accrued leave balances for sick, vacation, energy, administrative leave and paid leave bank.  Note that employee groups have different leave benefits.
  • Tax Withholding Information:  Shows federal and state filing status, elected dependent amounts, elected extra withholding amount, and exemptions.
  • Net Pay Distribution:  Payment number, direct deposit bank name, and account information, and net pay deposit information.
